Impact of our Work
The Center has long been known in the Washington community as the agency to which people can turn if they face sexual violence in their own life or in the life of someone they love.
As consistently demonstrated by client evaluations, referrals from previous clients, and client acknowledgments, the Center has a solid reputation for providing quality service to survivors.
Recent Accomplishments 2007-2008
- Answered over 3,200 hotline calls from survivors looking for a non-judgemental listening ear, and fulfilled over 2000 requests for information.
- Met 138 survivors at the hospital to be with them through their forensic exams
- Reached 7,000 elementary-aged children with more than 400 educational presentations
- Educated over 700 teens through our SASS program, teen council, teen conference, and peer education
- Opened a city-wide victim services center named The Lighthouse: Center for Healing. This was made possible through a grant from the Office of Victim Services, Mayor's Office, District of Columbia. This Center is a one-stop-shop for survivors of sexual assault, homicide, and suicide, providing a multitude of critical services under one roof.
