Child and Teen Therapy Services
The DC Rape Crisis Center
offers individual therapy services for children (4-12) and teens (13-17).
The particular type of therapy offered depends upon the child’s age,
developmental level and the child’s needs arising from the trauma of the
abuse. Some offerings of the
program include art therapy, play therapy, sand tray therapy, and cognitive
behavioral therapy. In addition,
the Center offers group therapy for teens at various times throughout the year.
Because of the impact
that sexual abuse has on the family system, counseling is available for
non-offending parents and siblings. Counseling
may be provided individually or in a group or family therapy setting.
Child and Teen Referral and Intake Process
Anyone in the family or
responsible for a child can make a referral to the program for a child or family
who is in need of services. Completion
of an intake process is necessary before therapy can begin.
Intakes for 4-12 year olds take three consecutive sessions while intakes
for teens can be completed in one session.
Making a referral or scheduling an intake is possible by calling
202-232-0789.
Services are available in both NW and SE
locations.
