Our Purpose

The purpose of the DC Rape Crisis Center’s Community Education programs is to increase awareness of the issue of sexual violence so that targeted populations (i.e. women and children) can reduce their risk of being assaulted. Our educational programs aim to debunk common myths and stereotypes about sexual violence to communicate certain key perspectives:

  1. Sexual violence occurs frequently.
  2. Sexual violence is perpetrated primarily by acquaintances, not strangers.
  3. Sexual violence is disproportionately experienced by women and children.
  4. Sexual violence is NEVER the survivor’s fault. Perpetrators hold all responsibility for their decision to hurt another person.
