School Programs and Presentations

Elementary Schools
The DC Rape Crisis Center offers presentations on issues of Child Sexual Abuse to students, staff, and parents. We have been conducting these presentations at public schools in the District of Columbia for more than 25 years. Below is a description of the presentations offered by our Community Education Department.
Good Touch/Bad Touch Presentations: Recommended for children Head Start/pre-k through 2nd grade. This 30-minute presentation explains the differences between good touches and bad or secret touches. We use puppets to illustrate to children the differences between good and bad touches.
Appropriate/Inappropriate Touch Presentations: Recommended for students in grades 3 through 6. The presentation is about 60 minutes and educates children on the differences between appropriate and inappropriate touches, and what to do if they receive an inappropriate touch. It is comparable to the “Good Touch/Bad Touch” presentation, in a more mature format. The presentation also includes a video titled “Yes, You Can Say No!” as well as a discussion.
The Good Touch/Bad Touch and Appropriate/Inappropriate Touch Presentations are to be scheduled during the school day. Click here to request a presentation.
Child Sexual Abuse Presentation for Parents and Teachers: These presentations are used to further educate parents and teachers about issues of sexual violence relative to their students and/or children. Some topics covered in these presentations are myths and facts, warning signs, mandated reporting, and how to speak with children about issues dealing with sexual abuse. This is especially recommended if students have already received a presentation, to further strengthen the learning experience. These presentations are best conducted after school or after work hours. Click here to request a presentation.
Middle Schools
The Center offers a program of Multi-Session Presentations to students in grades 6 through 9. These presentations are offered after-school or during the school hours. They address sexual harassment, date rape, and teen dating violence in an age-appropriate and interactive format. Students learn how to assert their own rights, and to respect others.
The presentations are held over the course of three consecutive sessions (each session builds upon the previous session) and include discussions and role-plays. Session I addresses Date Rape. Session II addresses Rights & Sexual Harassment, and Session III explores Teen Dating Violence and Healthy Relationships. Click here to request a presentation.
High Schools
The peer education program is one of the older educational programs of the Center. High school students can take an elective class where they spend the first semester learning about the issue of sexual violence and learning how to conduct interesting and interactive presentations to their peers. During the second semester, students travel to various junior and high schools throughout the city and conduct presentations to classrooms of their peers. These presentations are conducted during the school day. Click here to request a presentation.
