The graduate school internship program at the DC Rape Crisis Center (DCRCC) is a challenging and competitive placement. The DCRCC accepts applicants entering their second year of masters programs in counseling, psychology, and social work. The internship program includes the following opportunities:
- conduct individual psychotherapy with adult survivors of sexual abuse
- co-facilitate a support or psycho-educational support group with a staff therapist for adult survivors of sexual abuse (on site and/or off site)
- provide crisis-counseling on the 24-hour hotline
- be available as an on-call advocate to assist at the hospital for a forensic exam (crisis counseling only)
- participate in weekly case presentations with the clinical staff
- participate in weekly theory presentations with the clinical staff
- assist in the planning and implementation of city-wide held events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month
- conduct outreach to the community about the resources offered by the DCRCC
- individual supervision with licensed therapist provided
- peer & group supervision provided
