Internships & Graduate Students: Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the internship application process like?
   First, fill out the Internship Application and sent it with your resume and the application essay to Victoria Hougham, PO Box 34125, Washington, DC 20043. You will then be contacted for a short interview here at the office (or by phone if you are not currently in the DC area). Within a few weeks after your interview you will be notified by email (or phone if you do not have email address) if we are able to place you in one of our departments. Internship placement is based on department need, and intern schedule and availability.

2. Will I be able to work on your crisis hotline as an intern?
   Interns who start in the summer or fall semester have the opportunity to go through a full hotline and hospital advocacy training. Those interns will then be responsible for staffing the crisis hotline a few hours per week during their internship. Unfortunately, interns who start in the spring semester do not have the opportunity to go through this training.
3. Do you have a stipend for interns?
   Unfortunately, the DCRCC is unable to pay its interns.
4. Do you have a minimum number of hours per week that I can intern?
   We prefer that our interns work roughly 16 hours per week during the school year, and at least 20 hours during the summer. We do, however, understand that this is sometimes not possible. We will do our best to accommodate all internship requests.
5. Can I intern two semesters in a row?
   Of course. We encourage interns to stay on here as long as they want!
