Art Therapy for Healing Trauma: Integrating the Expressive Therapies in Working with Survivors of Trauma

Time:9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Speaker:Tally Tripp, MA, MSW, LICSW, ATR-BC
Description:This workshop will introduce the concept of the expressive therapies as a unique way to access traumatic memory, process through feelings related to the trauma, and promote healing in a safe and creative environment. Art making has been recognized a natural response to trauma because it tunes into the visual and somatic systems where the traumatic information is stored. Participants will learn the principals underlying art therapy and trauma work and will also learn some basic techniques using art, imagery, and movement to work with clients who have trauma related symptoms. This workshop will be didactic and experiential. No prior art experience is necessary, but participation will involve art making.
